Throughout the day on Friday and Saturday, the Independence Art Guild held an art show, presenting original photos, paintings, drawings and sculptures by artists from Independence and many adjoining suburbs. Entertainment was non-stop and included live bands, rides, games, a classic car show, miniature train rides, karaoke, fireworks, dancers and various other performers. Home Day was held every year, except during World War II. Over the years, some changes were made. Around 1912, a high school reunion was held by women in the School Girls Club, a group of friends who attended Independence High School before 1900. It was so much fun that their husbands wanted to be included in the next one. First time Home Days visitor Bryan McCarthy said his son recently moved to Independence. "Now, we turn any Independence event into a family function. It's a friendly and welcoming city."

Games and activities were offered for kids and teens, including karaoke, a traveling zoo, free pony rides, an egg toss and amusement park rides. Nonetheless, many Home Days highlights involved typical activities.
